Art with Nature
Art
The day was infused with art-making, all inspired by local ecology and history. Creative activities were lead by David Adler, Nathalie George, Ariella Pahlke,
Lynette Richards, and Denise Sooley.
David worked with participants to create fish and squid prints. Fred was the food artist, sharing wild food delectables and recipes. Nathalie showed us how to create paints and paint with locally foraged items and shared images of small-form land art collages.
We shared 5 underwater disposable cameras which Ariella encouraged everyone to experiment with, seeing shapes, colours, and textures as well as elements of local ecology. Lynette facilitated a workshop based on the local community’s folk-art tradition and showed participants how to use quill pens to write messages for the backs of their postcards with sepia ink, historically made from squid. And Denise worked with participants to create and photograph collages from everything that was gathered.
Postcards featuring our discoveries and creations will soon be available in local businesses and through the SS Atlantic Interpretive Centre, 178 Sandy Cove Road Terence Bay, Nova Scotia
